PROJECT MANAGEMENT FOR A DEEP GEOLOGICAL REPOSITORY

The program law of June 28, 2006, on the sustainable management of radioactive materials and waste, stipulates that: "After storage, the ultimate radioactive waste that cannot be stored at the surface or at a shallow depth for reasons of nuclear safety or radiation protection shall be stored in a deep geological repository. It entrusts ANDRA with the responsibility "to design, implement, build and manage (...) radioactive waste disposal centers.
In this context, ANDRA has initiated the project for the Industrial Centre for Reversible Deep Geological Disposal (CIGEO).

  • surface installations divided into two distinct zones, one dedicated to nuclear operating activities with reception and preparation of storage packages (downstream zone), the other to conventional activities related to the preparation of storage cells (shaft zone)
  • the underground installations consisting of the surface/subterranean connections, the access galleries to the storage cells and the technical structures necessary for operation, and finally the storage premises.

The project is carried out within the framework of a project management system, including :

  • the drafting of the sketch of the whole site and the installations,
  • the drafting of the specifications for the consultation of the project managers of the subsystems, in charge of carrying out the APS and APD studies of the various subsystems composing the installation,
  • the follow-up and consolidation of the APS and APD studies and of the regulatory files produced by the sub-system project manager.
  • specific safety missions (all risk analyses, preparation of safety reports, project safety coordination, etc.)
  • the design of the manufacturing and control processes (1st and 2nd level) of the storage packages in shielded cells
  • the design of the handling means inside the cells,
  • definition of the radiological monitoring of the installations,
  • integrated logistic support,
  • operating safety,
  • verification that organizational and human factors have been taken into account.
